This Year's Model Updates:

The Grand Prix underwent a redesign for 2004, but those familiar with the big sedan will find its blend of performance and comfort hasn't changed much.

Pros:
  • Strong supercharged V6, nimble handling, attractive gauges, easy-to-use controls, big trunk, fold-flat front-passenger seat.
Cons:
  • Build and materials quality still needs work, tight backseat, noisy engine, not enough storage or cupholders, no auto climate control.

  • Could Have Been Better - 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix

This is my 3rd body style of the Grand Prix. Im most disappointed with the ride. My last two have run to 125,000 miles and have had to nothing but replace the struts on the 99 model after 100,000 miles. Prior to replacing the struts, the car rode like an OLD Dodge pickup --- Every bump was felt. The 04 was purchased with 1,100 miles and rides like an OLD Dodge Pickup. I feel every bump. A dealership has aligned, balanced, etc. & still rides like a truck. Very happy with the 95 & the 99; Severely Disappointed with the 04!!!

  • Uncomfortable seats, but good car - 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix
    By -

I didnt do enough research and Im regretting it. It’s a good car, but when commuting two hours/day, some things I don’t like. The seats are uncomfortable in shoulder width. I don’t have wide shoulders, but only one fits in the center part of the seat. The other is on the bolsters. Wearing down the cushion may help. I’m too high. Can’t believe that seat doesnt go lower. When I put the visor down, it blocks my view. I’m 56" Getting in/out is more difficult than in my Civic. The steering wheel gets in the way. Great power. HVAC good, but back window fogs. Back window is difficult to see out of when raining.

  • update for GTP; keep looking! - 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix

Well, no further problems to report...just the same ones! The windshield is too low at the top (must scootch down to see the street light). the top of my head rubs against the ceiling (Im 64") but never had this problem with my 00 GT. Im hating NOT having an auto-dim rear view mirror. Night driving stinks when youre constantly blinded. People still confuse me with a Grand Am (including my girl friend)..YUK! Drove in the "Detroit Dream Cruise" all weekend and got my butt kicked almost every time. 0-60 in 6.6 NO WAY!! Seen 7.1+ on other sites and feels even slower to me. All talk and no walk. SLUGGISH! STAY AWAY. Dont be tricked by incentives(like me)

  • It aint the 99 - 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix

I had a 99 and loved it every day I had it. On a whim, I traded it for this adult version with leather and sunroof. Almost immediately I was unhappy. The sunroof hesitated for the first 3 years then fixed itself. The front end has been repaired at least 6 times. It ate a set of tires in 8 month. Tie rods, bushing alignment issues. The interior stinks: My 6 foot husband cant get into it, period with out moving the steering wheel and seat. "leather is all cracking, wheel is peeling, plastic is impossible to clean. I miss my 99 in myriad ways. It was huge, got better mileage. I HATE leather, especially this leather. And the AM radio is affected by sunspots or something 2x a year. weird

If you rate this car higher than 7.0 youre either lying, work for gm or probably both. I really wish I waited for more incentives. After 12K miles Im still hating NO auto-dim mirror. Loud engine is loosing its gusto by the month. Monsoon speakers are terrible. Turn on the rear view defroster and my stereo turns into static. Time for ANOTHER trip to the dealership. My 00 GT was roomier and more comfortable to drive. AND nicer styling! My head constantly rubs the ceiling in the 04. I could use the seat to go another couple inches back. Rear seats are a joke. Open sunroof is loud. POOR QUALITY! NOT WORTH THE MONEY!! Would NOT buy this car again.
